Last Minute Long Island Oyster Bay Adventure!
By Tom Ogden
Surprising numbers for 24 hours notice.
In a match agreed at about 3pm on the Friday, about 15 gents struggled through the Oyster Bay Oysterfest traffic to play LI at their new home field. With the Men's team having played the earlier game, borrowing a couple of them gave us just enough numbers to keep 15 players on the field for the 30 minutes each way match.
The match could be described as end to end stuff, punctuated with a fair number of scrums and lineouts. LI definitely had the edge with some very aggressive running, but slicing runs from the gents backs meant that it was not all one sided. The best of the gents was a well chased kickoff, leading to an aggressive ruck, and a driving maul to put Junior in to score!
With proper rest rooms, and a club house, the post match hospitality was wonderful, and the spectacular sunset completed a good day for rugby.
