NYRC Women Orange dominate over Beantown's 1st side on Family Day

One Win & One Draw for the Orange & Blue

Continuing a rivalry dating back to the Middle Ages, NYRC took the field against Beantown on Saturday, April 28th, to defend their pride and honor the legacy of those who fought For The Club in centuries prior.

Rumors were rampant as a figure approached the field. Were we being guest coached by David Beckham? Pierre Spies? Who was it? Alas, it was Head Coach James English, who was pleased with the outcomes of both matches and the success of Family Day overall: "It was a fabulous day of rugby!" he shared, "it showed the strength of the club not just on the field but off the field as well. Our performances in both games really optimized that spirit."

The powerful opponents traveled heavy, which allowed for 2 matches on the day and lots of minutes for everyone. NYRC Orange kicked off first and the forwards set the tone early with big hits and dominant scrums. Flyhalf Kristen Siano seemed to be enjoying kicking quite a bit, and wings Lisa Roselin and Kerry Conlin had the pace to chase. This resulted in more than one exciting race to the try line, to the spectators' delight. Although penalties gifted too many meters to Beantown, NYRC's tenacious D (with prop Amber Chandu setting the standard in the contact area) refused to let them gain enough momentum to really enter the game. Final score 48-10 to New York.

Up next, NYRC Blue was led by Captain Sarah Minahan (more like Mini CAN), and welcomed several exciting newcomers such as Jani Boal at fullback and Erin NoLastNameNeeded at outside center. . Meanwhile Flanker Eli Doyan and no. 8 Mel Pastuck played well off each other to combine for dozens of tackles in the forwards. This nailbiter of a match ended in a 10-10 draw, and Cpt. Tahlia Brody praised their hard work and was excited to see the new players coming out hard with intent.

Thanks to everyone who supported the players this weekend, and especially to everyone who put so much work in behind the scenes to create another successful NYRC Family Day. The future is bright!
