NYRC Take It All The Way To 11 vs. Boston Rugby Club
NYRC Women win 44 to 22 over Boston
NYRC hit the road again on Saturday 4/21, this time traveling to take on Boston on the city's first sunny day of 2018. (And we thought we had it bad with the weather...)
"Take it to 11!" was the inspirational message of the day from Head Coach Posh Spice...albeit slightly muffled behind a 100% cashmere (or was it pashmina?) scarf.
After several minutes of hard hitting back and forth between the teams, prop Jesse Ruiz found a gap and ducked through with a power step to start off the scoring. Boston did well to answer with hard running on the outside and good defensive pressure, but were unable to maintain the pace to match NYRC's unrelenting attack. Strong support from forwards like Steph Yepez (in her first start at hooker) and Flanker Legend Gio Cruz led to several commendable team tries, while Nicole Carroll ignited the defense with smashing hits off the line.
In the second half, the team made small adjustments that gleaned big payoffs and the backs came alive, getting creative and running hard lines. Meanwhile, the forwards saw Andrea Villanova's explosiveness blast her over the try line while Soti Calcano's tenacity in open play injected the energy needed to see the team through for a final score of 44-22 to New York.
We look forward to seeing everyone at New York's Family Day, next Saturday 4/28, where we will host Beantown on Randall's Island. Follow @nyrcwomen on Instagram for the latest in action and architecture.
