NYRC D3 fall to Old Maroon at home
Three late tries not enough as a poor start to the second half gave NYRC too big a hole to climb out of.
NYRC hosted its first D3 home match of the season at Randall's Island against Old Maroon. A pair of Graeme Braidwood
penalties gave NYRC a tenuous 6-5 lead midway through the opening half. But, a late try from Old Maroon saw them head into the intermission with a 10-6 advantage.
In the second half, repeated problems at the breakdown cut short NYRC's attacks and allowed Old Maroon to tally 4 more tries and extend their lead to 23 points. NYRC's fightback began with a long try from Jordan Ayala. As both sides fought though the unseasonable heat late in the game, a try from substitute Guy Lancaster
and a second by Ayala shaved the deficit to 29-21. But this would be the final score as NYRC did not have enough time to complete the comeback.
Next weekend, NYRC's D3 is back on the turf at Randall's hosting the Gotham Knights.
