NYRC men's 7s finish 1-1-1 at Hell Gate Sevens
NYRC all square at Hell Gate
On Saturday, July 8, the NYRC men's sevens squad competed in the Social Division of the Hell Gate Sevens. Played at the friendly confines of Randall's Island and starting at the very civilized hour of 4:00 pm, NYRC finished with the same records as the British & Irish Lions – 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 draw.
The opening match saw NYRC confront long-time rivals and tournament hosts the Village Lions. It was indeed a tightly-matched contest as both sides stood level at 12-12 at the final whistle. NYRC was unable to maintain this performance in their second match old the afternoon, falling 0-17 against Fairfield. But the day concluded on a high note with a 15-14 win over a spirited Colgate side.
Looking forward, NYRC travels to Connecticut on July 15 for the New Haven Sevens. The Empire GU championships will be held on July 22 in Morristown, NJ, at the Blazing 7s. And, on the weekend of July 28, a group of intrepid NYRC players will head north to Saranac for the Can-Am Tournament.
